Why St. George

This Is Our Home Market

Avid Home Services is headquartered in St. George. Our office and warehouse are here, which is why this is the one market where we install turf. Base work decides whether a turf yard still looks right in year ten, and that base has to be built for the soil and drainage on that specific yard.

It is also the market where turf makes the most obvious sense. Summer highs clear 105°F for weeks, annual rainfall is minimal, and UV intensity is among the highest in the country. Cool-season grass cooks, warm-season grass goes dormant and brown for half the year, and either way you are irrigating daily just to hold even — while Washington County water rates keep climbing.

Synthetic turf ends that permanently. The irrigation zone gets capped, the mower goes away, and the yard looks the same every day of the year. Done properly it lasts 15 to 20 years, and "properly" means excavation to depth, compacted aggregate, correct grading, and real drainage — all of which are included in our price rather than quoted as extras.

Built For This Climate

What We Spec Differently Here

A turf install that works in Portland is not the same install that works in Southern Utah. These are the choices that matter at 105°F.

UV-stabilized fiber

Fiber engineered to resist the bleaching and brittleness that destroys cheap turf under Mojave-adjacent UV. This is the difference between fading in year three and holding color for fifteen.

Heat-reflective infill

For full-sun yards we use infill that reflects rather than absorbs, measurably lowering surface temperature compared to standard crumb or silica alone.

Monsoon drainage

Graded aggregate base plus perforated backing so a sudden Southern Utah downpour passes through and away from your foundation instead of pooling.

Deeper base prep

Our soils here range from caliche to expansive clay. We excavate to the depth the specific yard needs and compact in lifts rather than using one generic spec.

St. George Turf Questions

Honest Answers

How much does artificial turf cost in St. George?
Turf is priced per square foot installed, and the biggest swing factor is what is underneath. Removing an established Bermuda lawn with a deep root mat costs more than clearing a gravel yard, and a yard that needs regrading or new drain lines costs more than one that already sheds water correctly. Per-square-foot pricing generally improves on larger areas. We measure on site, assess the sub-grade, and give you an exact written price for free. Our St. George turf cost guide breaks down every factor.
Will artificial turf survive St. George summers?
It is built for exactly this. Summer highs here regularly clear 105°F with some of the highest UV exposure in the country, which is why we install UV-stabilized fiber rather than generic turf. Unlike real grass, it does not go dormant, brown out, or develop dead patches from heat stress — it looks identical in July and February.
Does it get too hot to walk on barefoot?
In direct afternoon sun it runs warmer than shaded natural grass, the same way your patio or driveway does. For full-sun installs we specify heat-reflective infill, which reduces surface temperature meaningfully, and a quick rinse with a hose cools it within a minute or two. We will give you a realistic expectation for your specific yard — full sun versus partial shade is a genuine difference and we would rather you know before you commit.
How much water will I actually save?
A typical St. George lawn consumes thousands of gallons a month through the summer just to stay alive. Eliminating that irrigation entirely, along with mowing, fertilizer, and reseeding, means most homeowners recover the installation cost within a few years. Washington County water rates have been trending up, which shortens the payback further. We will run your specific numbers using your actual yard size at the estimate.
Can you cap my existing sprinklers?
Yes. Part of the install is locating and capping the irrigation heads in the turf area so you are not paying to water synthetic grass. If you have adjacent planting beds or trees that still need water, we keep those zones functional and only cap what is being covered.
What about monsoon season and drainage?
Drainage is designed in, not hoped for. The aggregate base is graded to carry water away from your foundation, the turf backing is perforated so rain passes straight through, and where a yard needs it we add drain lines routed away from the house. A properly built turf yard handles a Southern Utah downpour better than compacted clay does.
Is it safe for dogs?
Yes, and it tends to be a significant upgrade over real grass for dog owners. The turf is non-toxic and lead-free, and for pet installs we build a drainage-optimized base with antimicrobial infill so urine flushes through instead of sitting in the backing. No mud, no dug-up holes, no dead yellow patches.
Which Washington County areas do you serve?
We install throughout the St. George area including Washington, Ivins, Santa Clara, Hurricane, Bloomington, Little Valley, Desert Color, Entrada, SunRiver, Coral Canyon, Green Springs, and Diamond Valley. Our warehouse is local, which is why we can hold a schedule here.
Can you do both turf and permanent lighting?
Yes, and St. George is the only market where we offer both. Doing them together means one company, coordinated scheduling, and one number to call for service on either. See our St. George permanent lighting page.
